Even I don't always agree with my opinion

A Wasted Vote

“Dear Jack: Don’t buy a single vote more than is necessary. I’ll help you win this election, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay for a landslide.” – a telegram from Joseph Kennedy to his son JFK, the next president of the United States.

Despite my previous articles on this topic, I was almost convinced to vote for the Green Party in this year’s provincial election in Ontario.

I mean really, who can be against the environment?

It seems like a pretty benign party.

What would it hurt to give them a shot?

(Of course I once believed that about the NDP party in Ontario so I voted for them. That was the year they got in and they damn near ruined the province.)

But that was years ago and it’s neither here nor there now.

The biggest argument I get against voting for the Green Party is that it would be a wasted vote.

I never understood that concept.

And it’s just as annoying as “if you don’t vote you don’t have the right to complain”. (For more on that read: None Of The Above).

If it comes right down to it, unless the party you’re voting for wins by just ONE vote, couldn’t any vote really be considered a wasted vote?

The polls are predicting this election is going to be a tight race between the Liberals and the Conservatives.

So there’s a good argument to be made that every vote for these two parties is going to count.

And there’s the rub.

I sure as hell don’t want to see McGuinty running again, but I’m not sure Hudak is much better. I’m not sure that’s a responsibility I want to undertake.

I’m not about to take another chance on the NDPs so that leaves the Green Party. You know – the guys I would be wasting my vote on.

It seems like just about any of the above would be a waste of a vote.

So since things look that bleak anyway, I think I’ll go with the same option I chose last time: None Of The Above.

If they would just put my option on the ballot…
